Whiting Farm社の商品 " Coq de Leon " の登場で一躍有名になりましたが、オリジナル種は、スペインのレオン地方に住む鶏です。現在、レオン地方には、Indio（インディオ）と Pardo（パルド）の２種類のCDLがいます。これらの鳥を何世代にもわたって育ててきたスペインの農家から輸入したものを、２度、ハンドセレクトしたフェザーです。
